Christmas Holiday Training

There will be no Saturday beginners training until Saturday, 9th January. There is of course the Club race meeting on Sunday, 3rd Jan.

There is also a race at Chesterfield on Sunday, 27th Dec - keep an eye on BMXtalk.com

Kelvin might be running a midweek training session in the holidays. Updates will be posted here and also sent by email to everyone on the mailing list.

X-Bike training will resume on Tuesday, 5th Jan.

X-Bike Training

The x-biking sessions are proving to be popular and I'm sure they are beneficial to those who are taking part in them. The benefits would be much greater with two sessions a week so I am going to start running sessions on a Thursday as well.

The first Thursday session will take place on Thursday, 3rd January.

Tuesday sessions will include Jump intervals (very short sprints) and Thursday will include sprint intervals (longer sprints of 15-20 seconds)

Putting the effort into these sessions will pretty much guarantee improved performance next year.

Please let me know if you would be interested in a Thursday session and whether you would prefer session 1 (6:30) or session 2 (7:15). The cost will be the same at £2 per session.

There will be no x-biking on Tuesday 29th December.

Club and Team Structure

There will be a new structure to the Bunney’s race team this year. We are going to try and develop a cycling development program that the Americans call the “Farm System”. The idea behind it is that everyone has something to aim for.

New riders will become club members as they do already, and will be supported by beginners coaching sessions and regular club races. We will also have club tops and race plates to help new riders feel included.

The first goal for new riders will be to have the club logo printed onto their race top. They will be awarded this when they have achieved a certain standard of riding and participation, to be determined by club coach(s).

The goal for many new riders will be to progress on to the Bunney’s race team. This will be a large team of riders who are committed enough to regularly attend regional races and race at expert class. Many of these riders will also be racing at National class, and for them, the goal will be to get sponsored by the Elite team. The Team Manager, Nick Carnill, will make the decisions with input from the team sponsors and club coaches.

All team riders will get support at race meetings and, though the finer details of team support at Nationals and Regionals is still being worked on. The teams have not yet been decided, though we hope to announce the team lists by the end of the year. The teams will work closely together and will form one big unit, with both teams sharing the same team area and support.

The Elite team riders will get team kit plus, race frame and sponsor build kits. Team Bunney’s riders will get a race jersey, number plate, full support at regional and national races, sponsor parts packs though out the year, plus free services and the Bunneys.

Any Bunney’s team rider that make it into an A-Final will get an award and there will be a special award for the Bunney’s team rider that gets the most National Series points.

Nottinham Outlaws Winter Round 2

What a fantastic turnout at round 2 of the Winter Series. 106 riders is easily a club record (for a club race). Numbers were boosted by riders from other clubs and the racing was very competetive. We even had semi-finals in 30+ and 10-12 yrs. Congratulations to all the winners, and congratulations to anyone taking part in their first race - there were quite a few. It's tough racing against so many experienced riders, so maybe the next series will revert to the formula system.

Who fancies racing at the Belgian Indoor championships? Two days of racing. Two separate races.

Please let me know (at tsg29cs@yahoo.co.uk) if you would like to go. First come first served and deposit of £40 per person must be paid by 28th November, because I only have a provisional booking on the accomodation until then. The start of the Winter Schedule

There has been no news regarding the theft, which is a shame, but we are working towards getting a replacement starting system. If we do not have a new start system come November 1st, then we will borrow the equipment from one of the other clubs.

Start gate practice has of course been effected. No more Sunday morning start gate practice. Weekend training will start soon as follows.

Saturday - beginners training - 10:00 - 11:30 - £2
            - advanced training - 9:30 - 11:30 - £10

Sunday - club session 1000 - 12:00
            - mountain bike ride - see website for more details.

The first beginners training session will be Saturday, October 24th.

There is a Midlands mountainbike ride on Saturday 10th October at Sherwood Pines. Meeting in the carpark at 12:45 for a 1:00pm start. Decent bikes can be hired from the bike shop.

The first club ride will be on Sunday 25th October, again at Sherwood Pines, meeting in the carpark, near the visitor centre, at 10:15am for a 10:30 start and aiming for roughly a 2hr ride.

The first race of the Winter Series is Sunday, 1st November.

Nottingham Outlaws Winter Race Series 2009/10

The Nottingham Outlaws Winter Race Series will run from November 1st. Races will be held on the first Sunday of every month with the 7th and final race being held on May 2nd. If there is bad weather we will try and reschedule a race, but ultimately we may need to drop a race.

Two races may be dropped from a riders overall series total. i.e. if we run 7 races, then 5 races count towards a riders overall series total. If we only run 6 races then 4 races count towards the overall total.

Anyone with a top 5 finish or who competes in 4 or more rounds will qualify for a trophy.

This series will not use the formula system but will run with simple aged based classes. For this reason, it is recommended that experienced riders try racing up in the older age class. It will give other up and coming riders a chance to succeed and the tougher racing in the older age class will be of more benefit. Riders may only race up one age class.

Age classes are

7 and under
8-9
10-12
13-15
16 and over
mtb/cruiser

race fee is £2 for members and £3 for non-members

registration opens at 10:00 and closes at 11:30. Racing starts at 12:00.

02.09.2009

Gate Practice

With the Brits looming ever closer, a fair few riders are keen to get in some practice, so we will be running a gate practice session on Sunday from 10:00 until 12:00. We will also be running a sprints session on the grassy field from 10:00 till 10:30 for those that want to put in that extra bit of effort.

we will also run gates on Sunday 13th September. The following weekend is the Brits.

The End of the 2009 National Series

Rounds 11 & 12 were held at Bournemouth over the Bank Holiday weekend. Most of the Nottingham riders had something positive to take away from the weekend. Louis Coxon added to his collection of 5th places in the 11/12 quater finals. His riding continues to improve and even though it will be tough in the 13/14's next year, he is sure to do well. Harry Gray-Blest made the main on the Sunday but 7th place was not quite enough to get 8th place in the rankings, missing out by just 1 point. Ben Chaplin got some great results in his motos on the Sunday, but missed out in the quater final. Ben Carnill made it through to the B-final on Saturday, but missed it altogether. How frustrating is that? Chris Wimbledon is always super fast and his technique is getting better. James Edge is also looking good and with a good winter training programme, both of these riders will be getting through the 1/4 finals next year. Connor Hurry and Ewan Jones worked hard all weekend and made up some places. Fraser Dudley made the A-final on both days in the cruiser class and Lochlan Dudley rode really well, getting 3rd place on Sunday and a 5-plate overall. Brooke Shayler had another big crash on the Saturday, but came back strong on Sunday to take 4th place in the B-Final. Lewis Locker did not have the best of weekends, losing his pedals once or twice, but he got 7th in the rankings which is one place better than last year's 8-plate. Taylor Johnson gets better all the time and got a 4th place on the Sunday and 7th overall. Jortdan Perry has also had a great year with FreeAgent. He did not fair so well at the weekend getting DNF in both A-finals. He has still managed to achieved a brilliant 5th place in the series, while still at the bottom of the highl;y competeive 15/16 yr age group. He should do very well next year. The performance of the day has to be that of Louis Gray-Blest. Knocked off ther track in the A-final on Saturday but on Sunday he ripped up the second straight and went from 4th to 1st and then stretched them out to take the win. His first ever National.

European Championships

Lewis Locker and Harry and Louis Gray-Blest went to the European Championships in Denmark this weekend and perfromed really well against some very tough competition. Harry and Lewis got through the moto stages, but were knocked out in the Quarter finals. Louis Gray-Blest started badly with a 6th in his first moto, but he turned it around and progressed through to the Semi-final stage where he just missed out with a close 5th. All three riders will benefit from the experience and we hope to arrange for some more Euro racing next year, perhaps with a coach trip.

Track work this Thursday.

Thanks to those who have responded already. It looks like we can get some work done on Thursday daytime, but Wednesday has been cancelled. We will work though the daytime on Thursday and then more helpers will turn up after work to get more work done through the evening. If you can't manage the daytime shift (not many can) then please try and get down after work for a couple of hours to help out. Every bit helps.

Thursday work starts at 9:30 am

There will also be track work on Saturday.

04.06.2009

Track work Needed - Helpers needed.

Ok, the best days for everyone seem to be next Wednesday and Thursday, 10th and 11th June. I will be at both of them. I'll need to hire either one or two whacker plates, depending upon how many people are going to come and help, so please can you let me know if you think you'll be able to make either or both of the days.

Start time 9:30 and finish probably 5ish, but whatever anyone can manage.

If there are enough helpers we can get some grounds work done too (i.e. strimming and litter collecting) as well as track work.

08.05.2009

Beginners Coaching Sessions

There were a fair few new riders on Tuesday evening so I think it would be a
good idea to have a combined gate practice and beginners induction session
on Tuesdays. It would mean me taking over the last straight to give the
beginners something to work on, but hey, maybe that will encourage other
riders to focus on gates a bit more.

So,

Gate practice will start at 6.00pm
Beginners session on the last straight will start at 6.30pm
Beginners session will finish at 7.30pm but the last 20 mins of which will
be gate practice.

Please get there at 6.00pm if you wish to take part in the coaching session,
time to register and sort out equipment. Beginners will need to bring their
own gloves.

£2 for gate practice
same fee of £2 for the coaching session

62 Riders at midweek club race

Round 1 of the Nottingham Outlaws Summer Race Series saw a huge turnout of 62 riders. It certainly looks like the Friday night format is a great success. Everyone was racing in their age categories but next race will be different as the top riders get promoted and other riders drop down a league. The racing was good in round 1, but will no doubt be even more competetive for round 2 on Friday 15th May. Looking forward to it already. See you there.

24.04.2009

Final round of the Winter Series

Following the recent incident on the start gate we have had to cancel club sessions for a short while. There is no BMX training session on Sunday morning nor will there be any gate practice on Tuesday. The club will be reviewing both the incident and our start gate policy and, once done, we should be able to everything back on track.

Racing will go ahead on Friday and gate practice will be back to normal on Tuesday 5th May.

cheers,
Phil

Final round of the Winter Series

This Sunday, 19th April - round 7 of Nottingham Outlaws 2008/09 Winter Series

It's the final round of the Winter Series this Sunday. Registration closes at 11:30am and racing starts at 12:30pm. There is still lots to play for - but don't forget that each rider can only count their best 5 results towards their points total. So, watch out for riders like Shane Mills who have done 4 rounds, or less, so far. Their points from the final round will shoot them up the table.

Trophies from this series will be presented at the Annual awards night ceremony, sometime in September or October.

24.04.2009

Track work this week

Thursday 26th March - all day 9:30 - 5:00
Saturday 28th March - morning 9:30 - 12:00
Sunday 29th March - all day 9:30 - 5:00

We are getting ever closer to the first race on the new track (5th April) and need to get everything ready. The plan is to finish the height increase to the last berm and to tweak a couple of the jumps. In addition, we need to rake over lots of the re-landscaped areas and also add some stone and soil to the inside of the last berm. So plenty to do, please come and help as much as you are able.

Jim will be at the track on Thursday and Sunday. He can't make it on Saturday but as Saturday morning is a Route55 training session there's nothing to stop us from rolling up our sleeves and getting something done.

Derby Regional Report

The weather seemd to be a repeat of Harworth with a nice warm start then cloud and a very cold wind. Ah well, it is still only March. 'Ne'er cast a clout 'till May's out'.
There was a huge turnout of over 270 riders with lots of out-of-region riders turning up for a dry run of the Derby track, in anticipation of the first National event which will take place at Derby on 11/12 April.
The day started by getting all the team riders together in the Team Bunneys EZ-up for a team talk from Kelvin Batey which motivated and focussed the riders. We have a really professional outfit that we can be proud of.
Our club riders are performing better than ever this year with new rider Euan Towle standing out again, despite the increased competition from the previous round. Jordan Perry looked awesome, and unstoppable. Even in the final he out-snapped everyone, but somehow got taken on the first berm falling back into third. He fought back bravely, reeling the other riders in, but the finish line came just too soon and he had to settle for a close second. Ben Carnill looks like he has the 11's age category sewn-up with another impressive set of results. Louis Gray-Blest looked much better now he has the right racing gear on his bike. He was only outsnapped by National champions in older age categories. Katie Law and Harriet Carnill battled it out together again, I think they will be at each other all season long. The same goes for Taylor Johnson and Lochlan Dudley. These guys are also of a similar ability and will likely be at each other all through the season. They had a big off today in one of their motos, as they came together on the second berm, costing Lochlan a place in the final.

Congratulations must go to Chris Wimbledon and Ben Carpenter who moved up into expert class for the first time. Chris did exceptionally well by managing to win a place in the A-Final in a tough age group.
Finally, how good was Kelvin?

16.03.2009

Harworth Regional Report

It was a warm Spring morning at Harworth which is always a good tonic. Lots of smiling faces as everyone from around the region got to meet each other for this, the first regional race of 2009. The new Bunneys race team was supporting all our club riders with a new EZ-UP for shelter and mechanical support provided by Matt from Bunneys. It's a brilliant set-up and the support is available to all club riuders, including those that belong to other teams such as Urbanair, Redline and Freeagent. All the Bunneys riders looked fantastic in their new race tops, turning Harworth track into a sea of blue, given that there were over 30 riders from Nottingham and Bunneys combined. Wrekin riders and Stokingford Crusaders also had a large turnout and also wear blue race tops! The weather turned colder as racing commenced but things soon got pretty hot on the track. There were some great results ffrom club riders, but standing out above all was the performance of Jordan Perry whose attitude, power and skill simply overwhelmed his opponents, including ex-British champion Bradley Minns. Louis Gray-Blest also did well by racing up 2 years and mixing it up. Once his Dad gets round to putting the right gear on his bike he'll be flying too. We eagerly await the first National at Derby (April 11/12) where the performance of all our riders will be truly put to the test, but before then there is another regional race at Derby, this coming weekend, 22nd March.

Congratulations to Ben Carpenter, this was his first Regional and he was in winning form.

Congratulations to Kaya Clay, Ben Chaplin, Connor Hurry and Euan Towle - it was their first Regional race and they went straight into Expert Class too.

13.03.2009

Let the Season Commence

Regional racing starts this weekend at Harworth, Follwed by Derby Regional the week after. Then it's National racing at Derby on 11th/12th April. We also have club racing at the Nottingham track in Bulwell on April 5th. For many club riders, this is the first year that they will be competing as part of a race team. Lots of club riders are in the new Team Bunneys, while others are riding for FreeAgent, Redline and Dialled Bikes. Of course, all you team riders are still riding for the club too, and it is our goal to become a top 5 National Ranked Club this year.

10.03.2009

Track Work this week

There will be a whole load of resurfacing work required over the next few days. Please come and help. All day Tuesday and Wednesday and all day Saturday too. There should be plenty of opportunity for riding the track on Saturday too, but don't overdo it, there's racing at Harworth on Sunday.

09.03.2009

Route55 Training this Thursday - 12th March

Kelvin will be at Bulwell from 4.30pm onwards.

04.03.2009

Track Work this week

There will be a whole load of resurfacing work required over the next few days. Please come and help even if you've never done it before, there's plenty of folks around to help you learn the ropes.

12pm - 5pm Saturday
9am - 5pm Sunday

Phil will be there for all days except Saturday, when there is a race officials course at the Bulwell Healthy Living Centre. Adrian Render will open up on Saturday.

This weekend will probably be the last chance we have to use the whackers that the contractors have on site so we need to make the most of the opportunity. So please, please, can everyone try and give some of their time, even if it's only a couple of hours. Every bit helps - and it will be worth it when the track is complete. If you haven't seen it yet, you're in for a bit of a surprise.

03.03.2009

17.02.2009

Changes to training venues for Sundays

Bulwell track is closed for refurbishment, so the weekend training sessions have been moved to alternative venues. The Sunday training sessions have been moved to Derby which will be a great chance to get used to the Derby track which plays host to an early season Regional in March and a National double header in April. The track is in Alvaston Park, which is this side of Derby. Start time is 10:00am as usual.

Track Work Has Started

The track is now classed as a building site and is closed for the next three weeks or so. The big machines are on site and the last berm has already been moved right back to the perimeter fence. It's all very exciting - let's hope the weather stays kind to us for the next three weeks.

07.02.2009

Sunday Training Session is ON

The track is still a bit icy and muddy, but I'm sure we'll be able to get some good work in on Sunday. Given the bad weather just lately it will be good to get something in so come and keep your training on schedule. See you there - 10.00am start.

05.02.2009

Committee Meeting Rescheduled

I'm afraid we have had to reschedule the committee meeting again due to bad weather. The meeting will now be at 7.00pm on Tuesday 10th February and the venue remains the same, at the healthy living centre, Lawton drive, Bulwell.

25 Years of BMX Racing at Bulwell

This Sunday saw us holding a special 25 year anniversary race at Bulwell. It was also round 4 of the Winter Series. There was a great turnout of over 80 riders, despite the extremely cold conditions. I don't think it ever got above freezing all day? There was some great racing in all classes, especially league 1 which had 24 riders, resulting in the need to run semi-finals. There was a big crash in the second semi final, relegating a few top riders to the B-Final. The A-final was later won by Doncaster rider, Adam Carr.

League 2 saw Tom Watson in charge in his motos, but he crashed in the final which was won by Chris Johnson and new rider McCauley Brownhill was very impressive in securing the second spot.

League 3 was a battle between two Louis'. Louis Gray-Blest came out on top in the final with Louis Coxon settling for second place. Hayden Wright also did enough to get promoted up into league 2. It was good to see a new rider, Callum Raven in the 4th spot and in 5th it was Angus Doig who had travelled all the way from Buxton.

League 4 was dominated by two riders from other clubs. Owen Poulter from Peterborough Phantoms won the final and little Morgan Turner from Chesterfield got the 2 spot.

League 5 was won by Ewan Jones, thanks to his good moto results, because it was Owen Camm who won the final.

Jai Kemp was the main man in the Cruiser Class, winning all the motos and the final. Mark Wallace got the snap in the final and took the 2 spot in the final, but his moto points resulted in 3rd place overall, with Darren O'Brien sneaking into 2nd place.

Happy New Year

A happy New Year to you all. Here's looking forward to another great year of BMX as the Bulwell and Nottingham BMX club moves from strength to strength. It's the time of year to sit down and set some goals for the coming year. Setting some realistic goals are a great way of focussing the mind and gaining some motivation, especially at this time of year. Make sure your goals are achievable and within your control. The club can have goals too. How about these -

Get the berms tarmacced.

Get at least 2 more parents qualified as British Cycling Level 2 coaches.

Become a top 5 club in the National Points Series; we have enough top-flight riders.

Increase membership to 80 paid up members.

IMPORTANT: 2009 Club Membership

Please remember to renew your 2009 club membership. The race on Jan 4th will be the last chance for 2008 club members to race at Bulwell. Come the race in February, only club members will be allowed to race because club membership ensures all the parental consent and insurance issues are covered. And of course - it only costs a measly £3 to join the club for a whole year - but you must print out and fill in this new membership form. Don't worry if you can't print it off, we have plenty of copies at the track too. Also, don't forget to get your new "Bulwell Outlaws" number board for just £2 when you join for 2009.

No More Sunday Training until Jan 11th

Sunday fitness training sessions have been cancelled simply because there is so much racing going on. It's all in the events section, with racing at Dereby and Nuneaton between now and Xmas, and with a Bulwell Club Race on Jan 4th. Of course, racing is great training so try and get along to this glut of Winter racing.

Next training on a Sunday is 10:00 am on Sunday 11th January.

Route55 training on a Saturday morning with Kelvin Batey continues as normal.

Racing Report From Sunday

What a fantastic turnout on Sunday. We had nearly 70 riders competing and there must have been over 200 people on site. Simply brilliant for a club race meeting. Matt and Sue from Bunneys were there to hand out tee shirts to all riders - they were printed up with the new team logo and look really smart. Maybe we can get the logo painted onto the start hill, Derby style.
There was some outstanding racing on Sunday. Mark Maddox dominated the cruisers but it was great to see Adrian Jackson back into action so soon after major surgery - and he took second spot too.
Jordan Perry is still the man to beat in league 1 but he had some stiff competition from Ryan Bauer and then slipped out on the last berm in his semi-final, so top honours going to Ryan this time.
League 2 was dominated by a new face, Shane Mills. Michael Njugunba and Harry Gray-Blest were there to give him a stiff challenge in the final but Shane got the holeshot and Michael and harry clashed handlebars in the first berm with Harry coming off the worst. Lewis Locker was also riding in this group, the first rider to get promoted up two leagues in this race series. He held his own and retained his position in this tough league.
League 3 was extremely close, with Alice Law leading in all her moto's, only to be pimped on the last berm by Taylor Johnson. The same thing happened in the final but Alice recovered and clawed back the lead going down the rhytym section. Superb riding from both riders.
League 4 was all about Niciole Edge. No-one could get near to her and she won all her motos and the final. Josh Burnham, previously relegated from league 2 is steadily improving and won the 2 spot, and promotion back up to league 3.
Morgan Turner was the little man to beat in league 5. He won all motos and his final. New rider Nathan Wood did extremely well to get the 2 spot, and promotion to league 4. He is definitely one to look out for.

Thanks to everyone who helped and supported us. The next race is Sunday 4th January.

The results are now posted in the results section.

This Sunday Fitness Training is Cancelled

Fitness training scheduled for 23.11.08 has been cancelled because the weather forecast is for rain and snow. Try and get out on Saturday instead and get some work in. If you're doing sprints, remember to get well warmed up before going flat out. See you next week.

Take a look at the Club Bikes

Matt from Bunneys Bikes has taken all the club bikes and given them a complete clean and service with new grips and brake blocks to bring them back up to a good standard. A big thank-you going out to Matt.

Special Club Meeting - Tuesday, 25th November

There is a lot going on at the club right now.

- Rainer Crime Concern are taking over the lease of the land
- we are working more with PEDAL, part of Crime Concern
- Kelvin is coaching riders every week
- we have lots of good quality National level riders
- We have the makings of a good race team sponsored by Bunny's
- The council are considering the funding for several different projects
- Schools want to get involved with the track both in and out of school time

It all sounds great and I am very positive about it all, but there is a lot
to consider. The club belongs to all of us and we can all play out part and
have influence over what is happening. In addition, we all need to know what
is going on, and I am conscious that individual announcements and emails
probably fail to get the whole picture across.

So, we have a meeting where we can all get together and tease out our
goals and aspirations for the club. It's a great chance to get involved with
the club and to determine the club's direction. This will be very useful as
we develop our relationship with Rainer Crime Concern, and other bodies
(i.e. race teams, Kelvins training, schools etc).

The meeting is on Tuesday 25th November, 7:00pm at the Bulwell Healthy
Living Centre, Lawton Drive, Bulwell. Please come along and help make our
club one of the best in the country. We're on our way.

Revised Committee Meeting Date

We are meant to be having a committee meeting on Monday 15th Sept.

Unfortuantely Salim cannot make it that day and seeing as he is the key player in the volunteers day (which is the main reason for the meeting) we have to reschedule. The meeting is now Tuesday 16th Sept. 7pm in the Limekiln.

The Club/YIP BMX Steering group will also convene at this meeting - so we can kill two birds with one stone.

12.09.2008

05.09.2008

Massive Volunteers Day - 26th September

There is a massive volunteers day being planned for Friday, September 26th. Salim has worked incredibly hard making arrangements for the day and we are expecting at 40 - 50 volunteers on site. We really need as many club members as possible to come and help out, partly to keep an eye on things and to help make sure the day runs smoothly, and partly to get involved with hands on work. We especially need anyone who has any experience of working on the track.

Please can you let me know if you are able to make it for the day, or even part of the day. We need to have an idea of who will be there so we can plan what resources we need.

Please get in touch.

02.09.2008

It's the Midlands Champs at the new Derby track this Sunday (Alvaston Park).

29.08.2008

Route55 BMX Training - Saturday 30th August

There have not been quite as many people booking onto the Route55 BMX training sessions, scheduled for this Saturday, 30th August. So for this Saturday only, the start time is 9.00 for EVERYONE. We are not sure if numbers have dropped off, or some people are going to the Rotherham sessions instead, or if some people have just forgotten to book themselves onto the session.

The plan is to run a single session for everyone, but if more turn up than have pre-booked, it may be necessary to split the session and have the older riders starting at a later time (10:45 - 12:30 was the original plan).

Kelvin's training website is www.route55bmx.co.uk
Check it out for Kelvin's contact details and for all the training info.

Special mention for Jordan Perry who was magnificent all day and got second place in the A-final - only to be placed 8th for allegedly cutting the corner going into the last berm. Also, Lewis Locker has been riding for less than a year and still made it to the A-final. Superb.

7 yrs - Lochlan Dudley 4th
8 yrs - Lewis Locker 6th

Qualifying for a Midland's Series Trophy

The ruling this year for trophies is that you need to have competed in 6 out of the 8 Midlands Regionals in order to qualify for a trophy. At the Midlands Region Committee meeting earlier tonight, it was decided to make a concession that a rider could get a tropy if they have only competed in 5 rounds, so long as they pay the region's component of the missing race fee. This is £3.50.

So - if you raced in 5 of the rounds and want a trophy you must pay £3.50 to the region asap. Please contact James Gibson on James.Gibson@jdwilliams.co.uk

There was some fantastic Summer evening racing at Bulwell this wednesday. The weather was warm and sunny with no wind - perfect conditions. The results have been processed and the points are now posted in the results section.

Don't forget - it is the last round this coming Wednesday, 6th August.

Also listen out for news on the presentation evening which will be the usual format of trophies, medals, prizes and buffet. I'm sure there will be a raffle too.

Photos from the weekend - Burnham-on-Sea

What a great weekend it was at Burnham-on-Sea which hosted rounds 8 and 9 of the BMX National Race Series. There weere 17 riders from Bulwell - how cool is that. There was a special Elite and Junior race on the Saturday evening with floodlit racing, huge prize money, fireworks on the startgate and best of all, Mark Locker's big bbq trackside. All in all it was a most memorable weekend of BMX racing and the weather was so good that halff the club stayed on for an extra day to make the most of it. Pictures have now been loaded into the gallery.

28.07.2008

Round 6 - results late but ready in time.

The lock on the container broke at the last race meeting and the race results were locked and unobtainable within the container. We have since managed to repair the lock's mechanism (big thanks to Mark Edge) and retrieved the race results. They have been processed and all the reults and updated race series are available in the results section.

Don't forget - we race this Wednesday - 30th July.

22.07.2008

Coaching with Kelvin Batey

Following the shocking news that Kelvin Batey is not going to the olympics, he has rapidly had to make alternative plans. This includes running coaching sessions for local BMX racers. This is an amazing opportunity to get coaching from someone who is at the very top of the sport and who suddenly has lots of spare time for coaching. Kelvin is a great coach. Now, the details have not been finalised yet, but Kelvin is looking to see how much interest there is.

Please respond to Carole Foster at  rotherhambmx@hotmail.co.uk  and indicate if you would be interested in coaching at either-

a) Mansfield or Rotherham
b) Bulwell

If enough Bulwell riders are interested then Kelvin will run sessions at Bulwell.

There are no dates or times as yet and they just want to know if you are interested. ASAP.

12.07.2008

Track Work - this weekend

Well Done to everyone that gave up their weekend at Bulwell. We got loads done with most of the jumps having fresh lips and the whole rhythm section being resurfaced. Big thanks also to all the young riders who spent lots of time tackling the weeds.

10.07.2008

Track Work - this weekend

We will be working on the track this Saturday. Many hands make light work so
please come along and help. If you are able to bring a wheelbarrow it would
be a great help. So would an additional whacker plate if anyone can get
their hands on one.

Please come along and help support the club.

Saturday 10.00am. Karen will be providing refreshments.

09.07.2008

Replacement Summer Series Race Dates.

Two new race dates have been announced for the Bulwell Summer Series. They are the replacement dates for the races that were cancelled while the new gate was being installed. The dates are July 16th and July 30th. See the events section for a full list of race dates.

Next Race Meeting - Wed 9th July.

The next race meeting will also be the official gate opening at 6.15pm. Please try and get there in time so that we can show our thanks to the rotary club and to Gary from Portable Flooring. Without their help we would not have a fantastic new start gate now. Their genorosity has transformed the track and it is important that we show our appreciation.

Summer Series Round 3.

Round 3 of the Bulwell Summer series saw 45 riders taking part in a beautiful Summer's evening of racing. Michael Njuguna took a nasty tumble in practice and cut his hand, hopefully he'll be fine in time for the next race.

The results are now posted in the results section. As usual, please take a close look and let Phil know asap if anything looks to be incorrect.

23.06.2008

Official Gate Opening.

We will be offcially opening the new start gate on July 9th at 6.15pm. The press are expected to be there and the gate will be opened by John Heading from the Bulwell and Basford Rotary Club, and Gary Gibbs from Portable Flooring of Castle Donnington. We need as many club members as possible to get down to the track nice and early so that we can get some good photos.

Don't forget that July 9th is also a race night. It will propbably be a busy event because of the press activity so regitartion will close at 7.00pm. Please could people try and get to the trck early to help out, especially with setting up the start gate and the PA system.

17.06.2008

Beginners Coaching - Wednesday 18th June.

There will be a beginners coaching session at the BMX track this Wednesday. 6.45 - 7.45. Free of charge. Bikes and helmets available for those that need them. Please bring your own gloves.

Also, Steve Ward has taken the control system and given it a complete overhaul. It still needs testing but we should be able to get it fully working on Wednesday.

So - expect to get some free gate practice in this Wednesday evening, once it's all been tested.

Next race is Wednesday 25th June.

09.06.2008

Racing - This Wednesday, 11th June

The start ramp and gate are now more or less complete so there will be a club race this wednesday. The air-ram definitely works and we will be using it for racing. The electronics have a bit of a problem so we may not have a timed start, just a ready-steady-go and a flick of the switch on the air ram. We'll try and fix it on Wednesday, but It'll still be great with just the air-ram.

World Championships - China 2008

Fantastic news from the world championships in China. Lochlan Dudley got W6 in the 7 yr olds and Frazer Dudley also made it to the final and got W8 in the 8 yr olds category. So two world ranking plates in the Bulwell Outlaws. On day one, there were seven other UK riders who managed to get to their finals and get W plates.

Dale Holmes - World Champion - again.

Harley Taylor got 7th in the 9 year olds - W7
Flemdog - great gate in the main, winning for most of the race but got passed at the end - W2
Andy Shaw - consistent as ever, won the semi too - W3
Hilly - In the main after crash in the motos put him through and then got W5.
Ivesy - nicked 4th in the semi to get in the main, smooth on the track - W6?
Marco - good laps all day, 3rd in the first turn but got involved in a crash - W5

Wednesday, 28th May, racing is cancelled

The start gate is still not ready so racing is cancelled for this wednesday 28th May. I guess some people will still head down to the track anyway. Others may well head for gate practice at Chesterfield, what with a regional and a national being held there over the next couple of weeks.

* NEW * Midlands Region Website

Natz is building a new Midlands region website. It's still under development but there's lots to see already. It already has all the dates and the latest points from the Midlands Region Summer Series. It also has a great training section from Richard Camm.

Start Gate Update

There has been a bit of a delay with the work on the start gate.
Unfortunately, Kes was very ill earlier this week and we were unable to
complete the brickwork required where the gate drops. He has now left for
the world champs in China but I am hoping we will be able to get this work
done by someone else before Kes gets back.

I doubt if the gate will be usable on Wednesday when the next race is
scheduled. If it is not, then we will have to cancel the race on Wednesday.

18.05.2008

Directions to other clubs

The directions section has been updated with maps showing the location of other clubs in the Midlands BMX region. Don't try going to Derby at the moment though, it's being completely rebuilt by Dragon Downhill and should be ready sometime in July. By all accounts it should be a fantastic new track.

16.05.2008

Gallery Update

Four new galleries have been added in the gallery section. There are photos from the last round of the Bulwell Winter series, the presentation night, the inter-regional at Mansfield and the work at the track on the new start gate and ramp. I have more photos of the new gate on my phone - but I need to find a way of getting them off the phone.

13.05.2008

Bulwell Winter Series - round 2 has been cancelled

The start gate is not ready for racing so we have had no option but to cancel the race on Wednesday. It's a shame, but it will all be worth it once we have a new start gate.

11.05.2008

Start Gate Progress

The work being put into the new start ramp and gate has been amazing. Folks have been giving up their weekends and working in the week too in order to get everything up and running as soon as possible. It's been a bigger job than expected but we'll get it all sorted - no doubt about that. There are a few pictures which will be posted into the gallery very soon.

Telford v Bulwell - the results are in.

It was a lovely spring day down at Telford where we were made most welcome
by the Telford posse. Their track was small, but well prepared and the site
was very nice too. They had done a great preparation job for their first
ever race, with food and drinks and a PA system too, though not everyone
liked the choice of music - (eh Andy?).

Bulwell riders did very well and we just about managed to beat Telford on
their home turf. Summary below and overall results have been attached too,
in an excel spreadsheet. Full results will be on the website soon too.

round 1
Bulwell 1027
Telford 736

round 2
Bulwell 1464
Telford 1357

Overal total
Bulwell 2491
Telford 2093

So Bulwell won the inter-club challenge trophy, which will look very nice
in our clubhouse, as and when we ever get one - but that's another
story.....

See you all at Rotherham - this Sunday - Midlands regional round 2.

Club Trip to Telford - Sunday, March 30th

it's the return leg of the Bulwell vs Telford inter-club challenge on Sunday, 30th March. Bulwell have the upper hand after round 1 but we need a good turnout to secure overall victory. Meet at the Bulwell track at 8.00am and we aim to leave at 8.30am. Unsupervised children travelling on the minibus need a parental consent form. If you haven't already got one, there will be forms available on the day - but a parent/guardian needs to sign the form.

Telford is a long way so it's not easy to say when we will get back to Bulwell, but a good estimate is between 6.00 and 7.00pm

Don't forget the clocks go forward on Saturday evening.

Report from the Nationals

Last weekend it was round 1 and round 2 of the 2008 National BMX Series at Burnham-on-sea. We had 12 riders taking part in the event, which is a new record for the club. The weather was exceptionally cold and windy, I don't know how some people managed to camp out, but that's just what the Laws, the Spicks, Daniel and Jordan did. It makes me shiver just thinking about it. It least it didn't rain too much. It could have been worse. Anyway, we all survived and enjoyed an excellent weekend of racing at a very well run event.

6 and under - Harry Restall had an amazing 2nd place finish on day 1 and finished 5th on day 2. He now lies in 3rd place overall.

7 yrs - Lochlan Dudley comes back from a quiet winter. He is not yet race fit, but still managed a creditable 4th and 3rd over the two days. He looked much better on the second day and with a bit of training between now and round 3 at Cheddar he will be back in the mix.

8yrs - Fraser Dudley had a tough time of it, but he kept on trying and he too will improve over the next few weeks.

9 yrs - Louis Gray-Blest has improved since last year and managed to beat all the best riders in his motos. Silly mistakes in the finals let him down and got 6th place in both A-finals.

11/12 yrs - Brad Spick rode well all weekend and got a 4th and 8th. He now lies in 6th place overall. Harry Gray-Blest was on fire having improved hugely from last year. He won all his motos on day 1. He made silly mistakes in his semi on day 1 and the a-final on day 2. He needs to work on his gates and, along with Brad, he could be a real challenger this year. Alex Greenfield found it tough going - this is a double age group, so it's bound to be tough. It won't be long though before Alex gets through the quater finals and into a b-final.

13/14 yrs - Jordan Perry is unleashed onto the National scene. He rode well, in his usual style, cutting the corner in one quater-final, but getting away with it - it wasn't really his fault and the offical on top of the berm agreed. He made it through to the b-final on both days, making a very creditable b-final 3rd (11th place) on day 2.

15/16 yrs - Daniel Bowler rode well but this is a very tough class. He was moto'd on both days, but only just. He will get through to semi's before very long.

girls 13/15 - Alice Law was racing older riders and managed to get a 7th anda 6th place.

junior women - Katie Law was also riding against older riders and managed a creditable performancecoming 4th and 5th in her b-finals.

cruiser 30-39 yr - Andy Restall got 3rd in the b-final on day 1, but on day 2 he got through to the a-final which was a big goal for him. He finished in 6th place in the a-final. A great result.

SPONSORSHIP

Bulwell Outlaws are seeking sponsorship with the following different types of sponsorship currently available.

a) Sponsor a set of club number plates so that all riders have a proper
number plate. The plate can have up to 4 company logos down one side. £50
per logo would go a long towards paying for the plates. I would like to get
between 100 and 150 number plates and stick-on black number.

Be quick though - one of the four has gone already

b) for £100 pounds we can create a company banner and display it at the
track for all club and regional race meetings for a year. Following on from year one, the trackside sponsorship will cost roughly £50 per year, using the same banner.

c) Sponsor a set of trophies for one of the club's race series. We always
run a winter series and a Summer series. Trophies usually cost about £300 -
£400, depending upon how many riders qualify for trophies. For the price of
£200 the whole series could be sponsored by you, getting the series named
after your company and your company's name on the trophy plaques. All
posters, promoting the series would have your company's name on it.

Please contact Phil (07985-419101) if you would like to discuss anything along these lines, or if you have any other ideas about club sponsorship.

Midlands Regional Round 1 at Bulwell

Round 1 of the Midlands series was a great sccess with a turnout of 137 riders. Lets hope we can repeat that for the next round at Rotherham. It was great to see lots of novice riders and also to see lots of 16-29 mountainbikers. OK, so there was a huge delay before racing. This was half expected because we were migrating from a manual moto sheet system to a new computerised system. All the rider details had to be enetered into the new computer system, and then there were lots of errors to put right. Painfully slow, especially given the cold conditions, but it will be worth it. All future races will be much slicker and there will be no need for a large delay between motos and finals. It also makes us compatible with the other regions which makes it much easier to run inter-regional races.

There were some eye-catching performances from several riders on Sunday. Morgan Turner wins his first Regional race, I think he is still only 5 years old but already has an experienced racing head on his shoulders. Lochlan Dudley is still the man to beat and it will be very interesting to see if he is still top dog at the Nationals this coming weekend at Burnham-on-Sea. Let's hope so. Mellisa Foster was impressive too, no doubt benifitting from some coaching from Kelvin Batey. Lewis Locker is a new Bulwell rider with bags of potential. He skipped Novice class and went straight into Expert, handling himself very well indeed. James Edge continues to improve, looking much more assertive on the track just lately. Harry Gray-Blest was pleased to beat Reece Brownson for the first time while winning his class, while Jordan Perry - well - all I can say is bring on the Nationals.

Trophies, medals and prizes

I have been asked what the rules are for trophies for the 2008 Bulwell Winter Series. The rules are as follows:-

Anyone finishing in the top 5 of their group qualifies for a tropy. Top 5 finishers also get a prize.

Plus, anyone who competes in 5 or more rounds also qualifies for a trophy.

Anyone else who has taken part will get a medal, but only if they turn up to the presentation night. The details of the presentation night will be announced after the next committee meeting.

14.02.2008

Bulwell Winter Series round 5 round-up

The points have not been calculated yet, but I am working on it when I get chance. As many of you know, I've been very busy this week.

Sunday was a glorious day for racing and hopefully has given us all a taster for the year to come, providing an incentive to get training now. We had 75 riders which I think is a record for us, and very impressive for a club race by anyone's standards.

There was some top racing in all of the leagues and there were a few things that really stood out for me. Harry Restall rode well in League 5, just missing out on promotion thanks to Morgan Turner who beat him in the final. The rider who really stood out was newcomer Lewis Locker. He may be a new rider but he dominated every race and shoots straight up into league 4.

In leaugue 4 it was Joe Smith, another new rider this Winter, and Lochlan Dudley who took 1st and 2nd in the final. Lochlan become one of the few riders who have been promoted by two leagues, having started in league 5 he will race in league 3 at the next round. Angus Doig was unlucky having done well in his motos but only getting 6th in the final. It won't be long before he gets promoted.

Wilfred Njuguna and James Edge were the main riders in league 3. James is riding much more aggresively these days and it's making a big difference. He's been after this promotion for a long time and it is thoroughly deserved.

League 2 was controlled by a couple of older riders, Matt Mayneord and Jordan Smith. However, Brad Spick rode well and came through to take 2nd place in the final. He joins that small band of riders who have been promoted up by two leagues.

The best move of the day, if not the entire series, came from Jordan Perry in League 1. Jordan was in 4th place going roun the second berm but he put in a tremendous power surge and carried his turn of speed right round the last berm going past Ryan Yearsley and Ryan Spick to take 2nd place. Daniel Bowler used his local knowledge well to take advantage of Ryan Vineyard with last berm moves in all of their motos. Top rider of the day was Adam Carr who's speed on the track was electrifying - noone could touch him and I look forward to seeing him race at Bulwell again.

Andy Restall made a return in the Cruiser/MTB class and dominated big time, especially in the final where he made sure everyone knew who was boss. John McGovern is still riding well but had to settle for second today.

The penultimate round is on Sunday , March 9th. Registration from 12.00 until 1.00pm. See y'all there.

Travel options for the trip to Telford BMX.
Decide a date and Venue for the Winter Series Presentation Evening.
Decide on Dates and format for the Bulwell Summer Series.
Discuss Bulwell's round 1 of the Midlands Series.

Set date for the next Committee Meeting.

Please let me know if there is anything else to add to the agenda.

Track Work - Second Straight

The second straight has been reshaped now and by all accounts is looking fab. It still requires lots of resurfacing work and the plan is to go ahead with this work, this Saturday, 2nd Feb. There should be lots of equipment on hand so please come along and lend a hand. If enough people work on it, then it shouldn't take long which will leave plenty of time for riding the new track.

Bulwell Winter Series round 4 - report

Thankfully the weather forecast was much worse than reality and although it was cold and windy, the rain held off all day. There was a great turnout with a total 66 riders and A/B finals in every category except league 2. There were lots of new riders today which is always great to see. It takes a long time for newcomers to develop their skills and power, so well done to everyone who took part, no matter where they finished. Everyone has to start somewhere, the top riders of today were once sketchy beginners too, it just takes practice.

The 24/26 inch category was dominated by John McGuire again, though he was given some stiff competition in the Moto's. It was close in the final with Adrian "Action" Jackson getting the snap but with John forging ahead down the second straight and taking the inside line on the second berm. Dave Albrighton dominated his motos but had to settle for third spot in the final. Tom Flemming was also riding well today and took fourth spot in the final.

Jai Kemp was the main man in league 1, dropping only 1 point all day. Wayne Foster dominated the other motos but had to settle for 2nd spot in the final. Jordan Perry rode with his usual blend of cheeky confidence and bravery, but along with Daniel Bowler, did not do quite so well in the final where Daniel Gregory and Ryan Spick took 3rd and 4th. Daniel Bowler now has it all to do if he wants to take top spot in the league, currently held by Ryan Spick. Ryan Yearsley was unlucky in the final, breaking his chainring as he powered out from the gate.

Dylan Foster took maximum points in league 2. This was his first race in the series and he will probably stay up in league 1 for the remainder of the series. Michael Njuguna was on fire today and joins his brother, Wilfred, as being the only riders who have been promoted up by 2 leagues in this series. I wonder if anyone else will achieve that feat by the end of the series.

In league 3, Tom Watson, Ashley Jones and Owen Todd get promoted into league 2. Spare a thought for James Edge and Jack Warcup who both scored the same number of points as Owen, but it was Owen who had the best result in the final, so he gets the promotion. Louis Gray-Blest was unlucky in the final, slipping his pedals out of the gate.

In league 4, Louis Coxon got imself promoted back up into league 3, along with promising new rider Jonathan Eastwood. Joe Smith gets better with every race and will be looking for promotion soon. Meanwhile, Alice Law and Ben Carnill took a nasty fall in the first moto but Ben managed to get back on his bike for the final and just managed to avoid relegation to league 5. Well done Ben.

League 5 saw superstar Lochlan Dudley take maximum points. Top female riders Nicole Edge and Mellisa Foster battled it out for 2nd and 3rd with Melissa starting well but Nicole took the last moto and the final to secure 2nd spot. Both girls have won promotion to league 4. Lewis Locker was another new rider who impressed on the day and we hope to see more from him next month.

Results will be posted as soon - it takes a while to work it all out.

Donation From The Rotary Club

The Bulwell and Basford Rotary club have kindly made a donation of £250 to the club. This is the second donation they have made in 2007. Thanks goes out to the Bulwell and Basford
